Flinders Ranges & Outback information
The Flinders Rangers is a vast region extending from the southern Flinders Ranges near Melrose to Innamincka in the State's far north - over 1000 kilometres from Adelaide. So allow yourself time to travel, and explore.
Bordering with the Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales the Flinders Rangers covers 80 percent of the State's area but is home to less than one percent of the population.
A land of extreme contrasts, from arid cattle grazing lands in the north to the magnificent wetlands of the Coongie Lake system, the region contains seven significant National and Conservation Reserves.
Harsh and beautiful at the same time, the Flinders Ranges is a land of tree-lined gorges and desert plains that stretch to the horizon. It is home to the Aboriginal people who have lived here for thousands of years.
No matter what type of holiday you are looking for, there is an outback adventure here to suit. From scaling mountain peaks, soaring with the eagles over the ranges or lakes systems on a scenic flight, camping under a sky of a million stars, learning about the Aboriginal Dreamtime, steaming through the passes and plains on an historic railway or being witness to harsh deserts transformed into a sea of wildflowers after sudden rains.
