Hotel Products Direct finds a new Home
At “Hotel Products Direct” we would like to thank all of our customers who have given us so much support over the past 3 years. When we first advertised our business we had no customers, but we had our enthusiasm. Slowly at first, but gaining momentum, small and large businesses started calling on us for products, quotes and advice. Now 3 years on we are moving forward at a great rate of knots.
This week we moved into our new larger premises in South Yarra, Melbourne. We have traditionally been an “Online & Mail Order” business, but now we have a customer showroom and inter-grated logistics for stock, supplies and delivery.
Three years ago, many smaller accommodation businesses did not carry amenities such as individual soaps, shampoo and luggage racks, but now with businesses like ours servicing this market it has become a standard. For under $25 you can buy a wall mounted hair dryer and provide your guests with the same or better service than the larger establishments.

Hotel Products Direct started business approximately 3 years ago. The original concept came about from a problem we had incurred while purchasing linen. We owned a self contained holiday house in Hepburn Springs. We were wishing to purchase Commercial linen, in the way of bed sheets just like the larger Hotels used. Although I had been in the hospitality industry for some 20 years, I was used to purchasing on a larger scale.
When we initially placed our linen order we were given a price on the telephone by the salesperson, but when we received the goods a week later, the price was much greater than we has anticipated. So what went wrong? The original price we were given was called carton pricing, but since we were not purchasing a full carton we were charged at the “Loose” price which was greater. Then there was an additional penalty of $15 because we purchased under $250 worth of stock. The GST had not been included which was another 10% and there was also freight to be charged. This was a total of 4 variables to the original price and to be quite honest, the average owner operator just wouldn’t have the time to perceive all these variances.
We decided on offering our products to all operators large and small. The pricing structure is simple to understand. A product price that includes GST and a flat rate delivery. No hidden charges or unexpected costs. Honest, upfront and easy to understand.
