McCauley’s Cottage is a unique property, a genuine historic township cottage, the likes of which are rarely available for rent. Built in 1846 for the assistant to the Anglican Minister, it is larger than it looks, much classier than a workers cottage, thoroughly renovated ‘in keeping’ and thoughtfully fitted for modern comfort. Our guests love picking flowers, herbs, vegies and fruit, fresh from the large productive garden. (In season for months - strawberries, raspberries and mulberries).

McCauley's Cottage is self catering accommodation with much, much more, this is a fully equipped holiday house giving a unique heritage experience for up to 7 persons. We accept one night bookings, but most wish they had booked longer.

Arriving late is fine. Our shop, Jackson's Emporium is open late with food, wine, masseuse, internet, business services and more. Home made bread, a good breakfast and basic provisions for your first few days is already in the cottage kitchen and laundry. Discover the berries in the morning!

Most of central and southern Tasmania is within 90 minutes from Hamilton. Actually all of Tasmania except the far top corners is within 2.5 hours by car!

The main bedroom and the bathroom are on the ground floor. The main bedroom has an antique iron double bed, other antique furniture and a large built in wardrobe.

The genuine 1846 polished timber staircase leads to the attic which is more than large enough for a queen size bed and three single beds at one end and a table and chairs, a second TV and other furniture up the other. A partition wall and a portable screen give some privacy between two sleeping areas. (The attic is like a bedroom and a half with rumpus.)
