Getaway to the Grampians
The perfect place for your honeymoon, a romantic getaway or, for the more active, to get out and about with nature - The Grampians. Rising abruptly from the plains of western Victoria, is a spectacular rocky fortress with abundant wildlife, colourful wildflowers and ancient Aboriginal rock art.
The Grampians area, and in particular The Grampians National Park, has a natural beauty which boasts an extensive network of tracks perfect for all fitness levels. Whether you are there for the bushwalking, climbing, abseiling, canoeing, horseback riding or the local wildlife or want to make your way by 4WD or balloon you will be inspired by the majesty of the 167,000 hectare Grampians National Park. It combines several natural havens in one, from soaring ranges, deep forests and sculptured gardens to cascading waterfalls.
If climbing is your thing, this is the place to be, with hundreds of exciting climbs on the rugged cliff faces of Mt Stapylton in the north, or Mt Rosea, south of Halls Gap. There is a variety of local adventure companies who can take you to climbing and abseiling height.
If you want to head down-hill, then mountain biking through the ranges could be the go – with a range of tours available through outdoor specialists in Halls Gap. Both off-road and night bike rides are also available for the keen. There is also a range of horse-riding explorations if biking is not your thing.
Home to a wildflower garden of vast proportions, over 200 species of birds, as well as several species of kangaroos and wallabies, this is one of Victoria’s most stunning wine regions with Shiraz being particularly suited to the area. The region is also home to Great Western, one of Australia’s best-known sparkling wine brands. Great Western is in fact a town on the Western Highway between Ararat and Stawell.
Sounds like a place with something for everyone, whether you are after a laid back and relaxed sort of holiday or something more active is your style, check out what the Grampians has to offer today!
Well serviced by a range of attractive accommodation options, both Stawell, Halls Gap and Horsham are ideal bases from which to explore the Grampians as well as many other local attractions. There are many walks and drives in superb natural surroundings, with an abundance of native flora and fauna.
