Editors Choice Edgewater Terraces
As far as romantic escapes go, the lakeside village of Metung is romance itself.
Despite its growing popularity with generations of Melburnians, Metung still has the ambience of a small fishing village, surrounded by sailing boats and fishing boats bobbing gently at their moorings.
Edgewater Terraces at Metung - your private terrace by the lakes - comprises 13 elegant villas. Surrounded by tall gums, they rise out of the garden setting on the hillside and look down on to Chinaman’s Creek as it enters Bancroft Bay.
Some of the Terraces are virtually three storeys high and there is a sense of living in the treetops, not least, because of the rich birdlife attracted by the seed that is left for guests to feed the colourful locals.
Regular visitors to Edgewater Terraces say it is a charming place to stay all year round. In Winter you can just sit by the log fire and read a book, wander along the waterfront boardwalk to the village for a coffee and cake, or dine on fresh local seafood and great local wines in nearby restaurants or the waterfront hotel. The licensed general store is always open for replenishment of supplies. You don’t have to do anything or go anywhere, just enjoy the tranquillity.
Edgewater Terraces have some two bedroom deluxe units that boast an entertainment system and they have a corner spa in the bathroom. All Terraces are totally self-contained with all the luxury, care and appointments you are accustomed to. The upstairs bedroom opens out on to a balcony as does the living room downstairs allowing guests the opportunity to take in the seaside and bushland atmosphere.
The huge four bedroom Lakeview Terrace House is an attraction to many families getting together. It sleeps up to ten people in three queen size bedrooms and a bunkroom. This Terrace has a games room, a large barbeque on the rear deck, and balconies overlooking the water.
Guests at Edgewater Terraces have full use of the salt water solar heated pool and an enclosed indoor heated spa within the large grounds; they also have complimentary use of the Metung tennis courts. The water sports on offer – sailing, skiing and fishing charters – are an attraction for many, while others choose to stroll along the boardwalk around the water’s edge of Bancroft Bay. Various hire boats are available, making it possible to explore the magnificent Gippsland Lakes area. Some spots are only accessible by boat and Parks Victoria has installed facilities for visitors to enjoy the remote areas while also protecting the sensitive environment. In some places, there is access to the wild surf of the Ninety Mile Beach.
